(The Church of the Evangelismos at Mandraki harbor)

The Church Evangelismos is located next to Mandraki Harbor. Built in 1925, during the Italian occupation, it is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture. The decoration elements are all carved from the local, very characteristic sand stone. In the harbor, near the place where the Colossus of Rhodes was, lies the vast and imposing Evangelismos tis Theotokou church (The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary), in Eleftheria Square. At first, it operated as a Catholic church dedicated to Agios Ioannis and then became an Orthodox church. Moreover, it is a three-aisled basilica of Gothic order and at its right side has a square bell tower.
